Treat yourself for Valentine’s Day

Valentines Day .png

Valentine’s Day is a holiday that really can be different for everyone – single or taken, some love to go all out and for some, it is just another day. So instead of doing a gift guide for him and her, I decided to put together a few things that I love/have had my eye on in case you plan on treating yourself this Valentine’s Day – honestly you probably deserve it 🙂 And it’s always good to treat ourselves every once and a while (I do WAY too often.)

1- Quay x Desi Perkins High Key Sunglasses: My friend Mikaela included these in the bridesmaid boxes she gave us and I am OBSESSED. I wear them more than my Ray Bans now!

2 – Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Perfume: When my Aunt & I were out to dinner, our waitress had on this perfume that smelled so good – so we asked what she was wearing and it was this. Definitely my new favorite scent.

3 – Pink & Blush Elizabeth Stone Ring: I’ve had my eye on a few stackable stone rings for a while now and this one is one of them – and it’s currently on sale for $47!

4 – Chiffon Floral Wrap: I have wanted a floral silky robe for a while and this one caught my eye.

5 – Slip Silk Pillowcase: This was one of my Christmas presents from Davis – I had seen a lot of bloggers/youtubers recommend this because it is so good for your skin and your hair. They are definitely on the pricier side but they are so soft and feel so good on your skin – it’s supposed to be good for anti-aging too?!

6 – T3 1.25 Inch Curling Iron: I have the T3 Trio which has the interchangeable wands, if I’m being honest I do not know how to correctly use ones with a clamp. But I want to learn because I love how the curls come out! A lot of people rave about this one, and it is more affordable than the other T3 options. If you’re looking for a new curling iron I highly recommend this brand!

I hope this post inspires you to treat yourself!

My favorite purchases of 2018

Favorite Purchases of 2018.png

Happy New Year! I can’t believe the holidays are already over. Putting this post together was difficult – being the shopaholic that I am, I had a ton of favorites but I decided to narrow it down to some of the things I have purchased in the past year that really stood out..

  1. Zella Live-In High Waist Leggings – I didn’t think I would like any other leggings more than my lulu lemon ones, but I literally LIVE in these leggings. Not only are they extremely flattering but are so comfortable and great quality.
  2. Large Initial Necklace / Also similar here – I saw the Celine necklace on Emily Gemma and so I searched for a dupe and found one on Amazon, shortly after, Love Always came out with a dupe. I wear mine all of the time!!
  3. Anthropologie Moto Jacket – I probably wear this way too much..but I’m not even mad about it, it was definitely worth the splurge!
  4. Sol De Janeiro Body Mist – I came across this brand because of Tati Westbrook and now I understand why she raves about this brand…This stuff smells SO good. I also got the body cream and I am officially hooked.
  5. Leith Ruched Body-Con Dress – I had seen this dress on tons of people and I was so excited to finally buy it. It really is the most flattering dress I own – I also got the long sleeve version too!
  6. Halo Beauty – I never thought these vitamins would do as much as they have – but I have seen such a difference in my hair and nails. Worth every penny!
  7. Kristen Ess Shampoo & Conditioner – I found this at Target when I was looking for a new shampoo and conditioner. This stuff smells AMAZING but is also sulfate free so it doesn’t strip your hair.
  8. Gucci Belt Dupe – I purchased this because Natalie Kennedy shared it on Instagram and I was amazed and how great of a dupe this was?! It looks so similar and it’s only $19!
  9. Lastly..this Janet Gwen Gold & Marble Laptop Case. I have seen a lot of bloggers with this case and no wonder so many people love it – it is so classy looking and great quality. Her designs are stunning.

Beauty favorites I’m loving this summer (all under $15!)

BeautyProductsPost.jpgPicMonkey Image

Throughout the summer I’ve come across some really affordable beauty products that have become a part of my daily routine so I figured I’d share them with you guys 🙂 A lot of these are dupes for higher-end products that I just can’t justify spending so much money on, and why should you when you can find them at the drugstore for a fraction of the price?!

  1. Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer – This bronzer not only smells like coconuts and vacation but it gives you the most natural glow that blends so nicely! This is one of the many products I have purchased because it is Tati-approved (if you haven’t watched her on YouTube, click that link right now!)
  2. Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Foundation – I picked up this one up because it was oil-free, which is really important for my skin especially in the summertime. I notice that this foundation is definitely full coverage but very natural looking at the same time! I like that I can’t feel it on my face. It doesn’t clog my pores or break me out either.
  3. Maybelline Face Studio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter – I have this highlighter in rose gold and it is by far the best drugstore highlighter I have ever tried – it is so smooth, not chunky/chalky at all and gives such a nice highlighted glow to the skin!
  4. Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil – This may seem like a random item but it has been a game changer for my skin (I do not apply it on my face.) I apply it every night after I shower and shave, and it makes my skin so soft and I have noticed that my skin tone is more even and any scarring from shaving seems to have lightened. I have always loved Palmers Cocoa Butter Cream so I knew I would love this too.
  5. L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Bronze it Bronzer – This bronzer is great for your face and your body. I use this mostly when I have applied self-tanner and I need my face to blend with my neck and chest. It gives a really nice natural looking glow without looking “too bronzed!”
  6. Trader Joe’s 100% Pure Jojoba Oil – This oil is a more recent find and I did not know how my skin would react to it because it is so sensitive and oily already. I am struggling with acne and breakouts and am trying anything at this point. I have been using this for almost two weeks now and my skin feels so hydrated and smooth. Jojoba oil is known to soothe and cleanse pores but I didn’t know if it would do that for me! So far I am loving it.
  7. Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick – I love this because it feels like a chapstick but gives you color as well! These smell so good too.
  8. Maybelline The City Mini Palette – I LOVE this palette. I got the “Rooftop Bronzes” palette and it is the only palette I’ve used daily since I purchased it. These shadows are dupes for some shades in the Naked Palettes – and only a fraction of the price!
  9. Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss – I was looking for a dupe to the Buxom plumping gloss (which I love) and the woman in the Target Beauty section recommended this one to me. It works just the same! It gives a nice shine and the tingle makes your lips feel fuller!

What are some of your current drugstore favorites that you think I should try?!

Affordable beauty favorites

2plain-white-background.jpg

Happy Monday! I haven’t done a post rounding up some of my favorite make up from the drugstore yet – and I am loving a ton right now! So I figured this post was well overdue.

If you ladies have not watched Tati Westbrook on YouTube, you HAVE to! My cousin got me obsessed with her videos over winter break and I haven’t stopped watching her since. She is so honest about every product she tries and gives 100% real reviews no matter what brand. What I love is that she has introduced her viewers to so many great products that are SO affordable. And thats just what us college girls need right?! I cannot afford to buy my $40/$50 foundations anymore, so I am really pleased that I’ve found products that are lot more affordable. Some of these products pictured above are “Tati-Approved” so of course, I had to buy them and try them out. Now they are a part of my daily make up routine.

  1. Wet N’ Wild Photo Focus Foundation – Until I watched Tati’s video on and review on this foundation, I was hesitant to try a foundation that was only $5/$6. I have oily, acne prone skin so I am usually very sensitive to cheaper foundations that are not oil free. I gave this one a shot, and fell in love. It is SO full coverage, and it applies so well with a beauty blender! I have three different shades so that I can mix them depending on if I am fake tanning or not.
  2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer – This stuff is a GAME CHANGER. I have seen a lot of bloggers and youtubers rave about this concealer, so I finally decided to give it a try.  It is not super thick like my other concealers I swear by (I talk about them in this post) but DANG this is full coverage! It covers my under eye circles better than anything else I’ve tried. And the best part – its only $7/$8!
  3. L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer – To be completely honest, until I started watching Tati’s youtube videos I never filled in my eyebrows. I just didn’t think it was necessary because mine are already so dark and somewhat defined. But this has made a huge difference just filling in any sparser areas in my brows and making them stand out a little more!
  4. Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder – This stuff is another game changer. First of all, it smells SO GOOD, and second of all, it sets like no other powder I’ve tried. It is sometimes easy to go overboard with, a little definitely goes a long way – but it sets with my under eye concealer so well.
  5. L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara – I have never been one to spend a lot of money on mascaras – I’ve always managed to find drugstore mascaras that I love. I don’t think I’ve ever even purchased a high end mascara?! This one has become one of my all time favorites. The downside to his however, is I find that it dries out quickly compared to my other mascaras. Other than that, I love the length and volume it gives my lashes!
  6. Wet n’ Wild MegaGlo Highlight – To be honest, I never was one to highlight much until I started watching Tati either..but lately I have been really into it, especially at night! This highlighting powder is only $5 and i find that it gives my cheekbones a nice “champagne” glow that isn’t too intense. I especially love it mixed with bronzer.

Something that I have been really trying to do is invest in my skincare and take better care of my skin (drinking more water, moisturizing more often & etc), because I feel as though the better your skin is, the better it will look in make up. So I’ve learned I would rather splurge on skin care that way my skin may be able to tolerate more affordable make up! Like I said – if you’re looking for honest reviews on products in various price ranges, check out Tati!

Favorite beauty purchases of 2017

PicMonkey Image-3-2

There have been various beauty products that I have tried throughout the past year – some that worked a lot better than others. The nine pictured above have become my holy grail products – game changers in my book. Some are a little bit on the pricier side, but they last quite a while and you definitely get your moneys worth!

The Professional Face Primer – I got this as a sample at first, I didn’t expect to love it because I have sensitive/oily skin and I had yet to find a lightweight primer that didn’t trap oils under my foundation. I tried this one and not only does it smell great, but it’s super lightweight and minimize the appearance of my pores. I ended up purchasing a full size one, but the sample size lasted me quite a while because a little goes a long way! (It is a little on the pricier side, but because I have such sensitive skin, not many drugstore primers were working for me.)

Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer –  I purchased this over the summer and loved how smooth and natural it looked on my skin. It blended onto my setting powder really easily and wasn’t chalky at all. This is definitely by far my favorite bronzer I’ve tried!

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer – I purchased this concealer after I ran out of my erase paste (now known as “boi-ing brightening concealer“) when Sephora had run out last winter because Benefit was re-packaging and re-naming the product. The consistency of this one is very similar to erase paste as it is rather thick and is full coverage – great for under eye circles. Because it is so thick and creamy, a little goes a long way. I’ve had the same tube of this stuff since last winter and am just now getting low!

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion – I have been using this stuff for so long I can’t even remember how long ago I purchased my first bottle! This spot treatment is a life saver for my oily skin when I get acne flare ups that need to be dried out! It dries them out overnight and makes a huge difference. The key is to not shake it – let the oil and powder separate in order for it to be most effective.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – This is one of my newer purchases that has been quite the game changer for my skin. In early December, one of my favorite bloggers, Olivia Rink, posted that she had gotten a $10 facial at Ulta through Dermalogica. Immediately after I saw her post, I called Ulta and booked a 10 minute, $10 facial facial for my cousin and I. I had never tried Dermalogica products before but I had always wondered about them. After my facial and learning more about my problem areas, the lady who gave me my facial pointed out a few products that would help with my oily problematic skin. This daily exfoliant is extremely gentle and my face feels so much cleaner after using it! (I tried out the travel size first – it lasted me about 3 weeks.)

Dove Dry Spray Deodorant – I had yet to find the perfect deodorant that worked for me until this one. Not only does it last all day, but they have different scents and they smell SO GOOD. I prefer to get the one that is invisible so that there are no white marks on my clothes.

Batiste Dry Shampoo (Divine Dark) – This is by far my favorite dry shampoo. Considering I am trying to wash my hair less, I use this daily. One of the things I used to hate about dry shampoo was the white that it left in your hair, but with this brown dry shampoo, you can’t see it at all – it also smells really good.

Aveda Damage Remedy leave-in treatment – This is on the pricier side as well – but has worked so well treating my damaged and dry hair. After a few balayages, my hair was extremely broken at the ends and dry feeling. I use this every time I wash my hair and it feels so much healthier. It is also super helpful because I curl/straighten my hair so much.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray – For a while I never really understood the importance of heat protectant until I felt that my hair was extremely damaged and I really needed to protect it considering I was using heat on it almost daily. This one is super affordable and works really well!

Save or splurge: Beauty products

SPLURGE: SKINCARE

SaveSplurge8SaveSplurge1SaveSplurge2SaveSplurge3SaveSpulrge2

On a college budget I’ve learned what I should save money on, and what I should  splurge on. I’ve learned that you should always invest in your skin. Until a few weeks ago I still hadn’t found any skin care products that were friendly to my wallet that worked for me and did everything my skin needed without breaking me out. I recently attended a Caudalie workshop at the Equinox gym I work at. They gave us these free products and I was super excited to try them – not expecting them to work, I was really impressed when I woke up the next morning and my skin felt hydrated and moisturized (but not too oily.) I have sensitive/oily skin so I’ve never been able to moisturize without breaking out – but my skin reacted really well to all of these products!

In the shower, I cleanse with the Mario Bedescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser – this is so gentle!

After I remove my eye make up with Neutrogena Oil Free Makeup Remover I use a cotton round to apply the Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water – and then I apply the Vine(Activ) Glow Activating Anti-Wrinkle Serum – this is super pricey, and I only use a tiny amount, a little goes a long way! I then apply the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet.

Of course none of this is cheap – but it has been a game changer for my skin. If you were to buy only one of these products – I would definitely invest in the Mario Bedescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser!!

SAVE: DRUGSTORE MAKE UP

SaveSplurge6SaveSplurge6-2SaveSplurge7

Face – Originally I found myself always splurging on foundation and concealer, but on a college budget, paying for a $40 foundation was just too much, and I knew I could probably find a drugstore foundation that was equally as great. I use Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation that is only $9, it’s super lightweight and I only use a little bit and blend it with a beauty blender. I’ve realized that less is more with foundation. My favorite powder that I have used for YEARS now is the Rimmel London Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder, which is only $6!  Because I have oily skin, this keeps my skin looking matte and less shiny. Something I do still splurge on is concealer – I figure I should splurge on either foundation and get a cheaper concealer, or a higher end concealer with a cheaper foundation. So, I settled for investing in a thick concealer that could work if I just want to wear concealer and powder. My new favorite concealer is the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer – it’s very thick so a little goes a long way. It’s a life saver for under eye circles, and comparatively $26 is not bad for high end concealer. For contouring, I use the Lorac Pro Contour Palette, this is pricey, but I’ve found that it’s lasted me SO long. For a setting spray, I use NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray – this is a life saver especially in the summertime.

Eyes – More recently I’ve started buying single colors of eye shadow from Walgreens or Target when I run out of my favorites in the Naked palettes, I don’t want to purchase an entire o palette to only use a few colors. I use the individual L’Oreal Paris Infallible Shadows as a base, and apply a little bit of Revlon Colorstay Creme Eyeshadow to brighten my eyes. For mascara I use Maybelline’s Lash Sensation,  this has been my favorite for years now. I have never been one to splurge on mascara.

SPLURGE: HAIR

SaveSplurge4

Along with skincare, I believe it’s also important to splurge on hair products. Ever since Emily Gemma shared that her favorite shampoo was the Caviar Anti-Aging Shampoo, I of course had to invest in it, it is by far my favorite shampoo I have ever tried. It immediately makes my hair shiner and softer after one wash. I recently realized that after getting highlights and balayage that my hair was extremely damaged, the Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair is another game changer. I put it especially on the ends of my hair where my hair seems to be the most damaged.

OR SAVE..

SaveSplurge5

Although it’s good to splurge on really nice hair products, on a college budget it’s not realistic to consistently purchase them, recently I’ve become obsessed with a more budget friendly option, the Tresemme Expert Selection Botanique Damage Recovery Shampoo – not only does it smell SO GOOD but it makes my hair extremely soft. The conditioner is also a must have.

Overall, there are obviously cheaper alternatives to everything, but I think investing in your skincare products and hair products is extremely important for healthier skin and healthier hair.
